Lakeville North has appeared in the boys’ golf state tournament four times. Junior Bobby Thomas hopes to help the Panthers make it No. 5 this season.

Here is a look at Thomas:

The best movie I’ve seen in the past year: Probably “The Change-up” or “Ted.”

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are … “Burning Heart” by Survivor, and anything country. I listen to real music. HaHa!

What are your three favorite apps? I like almost every game I can find on my iPad.

Who do you like to follow the most on Twitter, and why? I don’t have a Twitter [account]. I guess I’m kind of a Luddite when it come to Twitter.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Confident; golf nut; joker.

How did you get started playing golf? My dad gave me a cut-down 7-iron and let me hack away.

At my first varsity practice, I felt … really, really small. I was a 5-foot-nothing seventh-grader and players like Adam Petterson, Brady Shea and P.J. Gansky were well over 6-foot.

What did you work on most prior to the season? Posture and plane in my swing and short game. I’m mainly just working on owning my swing, so I can be more consistent.

What are your goals for the upcoming season? I want to win the state team title for Lakeville North. Everything else I accomplish will be secondary to that.

To get focused for a meet, I … listen to music and tell jokes. I have a hard time shutting up sometimes, but I’ve figured out which of my teammates like to talk before meets and which don’t.

What is your favorite pregame meal? Chipotle steak bowl. It’s a team tradition.

I know I have an edge on an opponent when … I don’t worry about my opponents. I let them worry about me.

What is your most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Losing in sections last year. It’s not my favorite memory, but it always sticks in my mind. I struggled a lot last year, and when we lost at sections I promised myself it would never happen again, and that memory drives me every day.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I have to get ahead on my homework during the season because I will miss a lot of school and I’m taking three AP classes. There will be some late nights, those are unavoidable.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? I would like to play longer golf courses. I’d like to open it up and hit the driver a little more than I do right now.

Who is your favorite college or pro sports team and why? The Wisconsin Badgers. They’ve been my team since I was little and I love Bucky.

Do you have a secret talent —and if so, what is it? I can cook. My parents don’t cook much so it was cook or starve. HaHa!

In 10 years, I hope I’m … playing on tour.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Sports are a self-fulfilling prophecy. You are what you think you are.
